How to have a more peaceful …. Christmas
(Top 3 Tips taken from the series “3 Peace Suites” )
“Last Christmas” is more than just a George Michael song from his Number 1 album “TWENTYFIVE” ; it’s now our reference point for reflection on the festive season - 2005.
How was Last Christmas for you? Was it filled with RPF’s? (Relative Personality Flashpoints). What caused the most “heat” in the house – the “duel- fuelled” family egos or the ignited alcohol on the Christmas pudding!
Do you want to make this year your BEST EVER festive holiday? Then read on …
Preparation
This is about preparing yourself, not the tree, presents, bird or nut cutlet! Decide now what outcomes you want from the forth coming holiday. How do you want this year to be different from previous years? Decide, plan and write it down – please don’t miss out the last step. Write it down as if it’s already happen and read it out-loud every day from now until Christmas…. This is not a Christmas “wish-list” – these are your Christmas affirmations!!
Presence
For the majority of us, this is the only time of the year that all the members of the family get together. We all carry the mental images from Christmas cards of happy families gathering together singing carols and having a wonderful time. The truth is that family life (even without the extended family members) in the 21st century isn’t like that. This can be a volatile Christmas punch mixture with ingredients such as, different personalities, wills, egos, wants and desires. What steps do we need to protect ourselves from the effects of this powerful “punch”? Is your spirit crushed by others? Do they make so many demands of you and of your precious time? Take responsibility for your own wants this year…. You are important, your needs are valid, and you should have the respect you deserve as a member of the family.
Remember your presence there is just as important as the presents.
Prize
How are you going to reward yourself once this holiday season is over? Plan your special treat now …. Decide what you are going to do, put it in your diary and look forward to it!!
Have a wonderful, peaceful festive season …..
