What good can you find in this?
What good can you find in this? A friend of mine once talked about looking in the armpits of the dragon and finding diamonds there, an image of finding something worthwhile in the most unexpected and unpleasant of places.
So ‘What good can you find in this?’ is a question to ask of yourself or someone else when things are really difficult. It’s not about pretending that things are easy when they aren’t, but of being realistic about how things are, perhaps in a break up, when grieving, in serious illness or when facing tough decisions in work or business. It’s not about turning things around to see the positive instead when that would be unrealistic or disrespectful of the full range of human emotion and situation.
‘What good can you find in this?’ is an invitation to look for what good there might be to be found as well as whatever is painful and difficult. And finding the ‘diamond’ might just help someone to cope with a ‘dragon’s armpit.’
