How To Win Back Points Taken Off Your Driving Licence
Speaking to a Spanish friend of my today he told me that a few months ago he had 4 points taken off his driving licence. What had he done? He did not come to a complete stop at a stop sign. By a complete stop I mean just that, he had slowed right down to about 3 miles an hour, there were no cars in sight and he made the turn. Unluckily for him there were two police parked nearby who pulled him over and fined him the four points.
Just last week he logged on to the trafico website - www.dgt.es - to check on the status of the fine and found that sure enough the four points had been removed. However, to retrieve the four points all he has to do is pay €170 for a few driving lessons and voila!
Now while it seems a bit harsh to lose four points for something relatively minor, he did break the law and was punished. Fair enough. But it seems to me to completely contradict the new ´strict´ laws, by allowing him to immediately recover them just by taking a few lessons - and of course forking out the €170!
One more example of how a bit of research will find a way around most things!
