Interview With
Book Title
Spain: The Expat Survival Guide
First Published
Who is this book written for?
Anyone thinking of moving to Spain or buying property there, and those particularly in their first six months in Spain. There is so much more to relocating and you need to know the hidden problems you will face.
How much did you know about your subject before writing this book? In other words, what qualifies you to write this book?
Three years of painful mistakes and adjustment to the Spanish way of life!
What makes your book different?
It looks at the hidden problems overlooked by guide books and financial guides. There is so much more to consider.
Why did you write this book?
Because despite having the advantage of speaking Spanish very well, I think found it so much harder - and frustrating - than I expected. If I found it that hard, I knew other expats, with no experience of the Spanish culture must find it even harder. There are so many mistakes expats make, I just wanted to help them be aware of what they were facing to try and make their transition easier.
What kind of research did you do for your book?
Years of personal experience and that of other expats in Spain.
Tell us the single most important thing we'll learn from your book...
How to make your investment in Spain a successful one - financially, emotionally and mentally.
How would you describe yourself?
A positive and dynamic person determined to make the most of the opportunities I have been given.
What's your greatest achievement so far?
There are too many to list! But making the move to Spain a successful one definately ranks in the top ten. It was not easy to do, especially with two young children, but is definately one of the best things I have ever done.
Who are your role models/influences and why?
What's the most exciting thing that's happened to you as a result of writing your book?
What are you working on now?
I am preparing the largest resource database for expats in Spain and a free report on alternative jobs for expats. I would be interested in any suggestions readers might have.
What else do you do?
I am a virtual assistant offering help and advice including property finding, administrative support, translations and problem solving.
