There's an interesting article on the BBC site about the reasons a book sells well - here's the summary of the top 10 factors that make a book sell:
1. Word of mouth
2. The book group
3. Richard and Judy
4. Author
5. Art of covers
6. In-store marketing
7. Rise of prizes
8. Unusual titles
9. Praise for
10. Newspaper serialisation
Now, whilst this list is mainly geared towards a fiction book (this article was written in light of the Man Book Prize awards), this is still a good list for your non-fiction book too. We strongly agree that number 1 on the list is the number one method.
