THE DRIVE OF YOUR LIFE
THE DRIVE OF YOUR LIFE
We all know that most men share a passion for their cars. Look down any street on a typical Sunday and you can spy all your male neigbours complete with soapy water and chamoix leather. For many men, happy times are spent lovingly nurturing and restoring both the interior and exterior of their prize possession while the real prize (themselves) is prone to neglect.
As most men have an aversion to hearing how they may enhance their appearance, I though tips with a motoring flavour may do the trick. So here are my tips. They contain all you (or your partner/husband/dad) need to think about if you are going to look fabulous at all times.
Top Tips for the successful motorist
- Look In The Mirror.
Before you make any manoeuvre in your vehicle, you will need to check your mirror. It’s dangerous not to do so. The same applies to your appearance. Prior to any important meeting, date, work or social engagement be sure to look in the mirror. You don’t want any unfortunate accidents because you forgot to check.
- What Gear Are You In?
You would never drive your car using the incorrect gear. So you should never go out of the house in the wrong gear either. Have good look at the clothes you wear. Are they dated, worn, tatty and appropriate to the occasion? Do they complement your overall shape and build? If you are angular, select stiff, starchy fabrics and a geometric pattern such as checks or stripes. If you are more rounded, choose fabrics with some give in the material and opt for abstracts or curved designs.
- Polish Your Body Work.
My last newsletter dealt with this subject as it is very important to be well groomed. At the very least, you should be clean and wearing well pressed clothes and polished shoes. Skin care is vital as you get older so start to do something now.
- Effective Fuel Consumption
A car will not perform well without the right grade of fuel, oil and water. Neither will your body. A healthy diet and lots of water will ensure you look fit and young – a model to be seen with.
- Check Your Upholstery
What appears on the outside will never look good if the interior lets it down. Underwear is not often mentioned for men but it is extremely important. It can be sexy and/or functional but it must fit correctly, never look shabby and always be clean!
- Check Your Tread
Your tyres need a good tread and the right pressure to keep your car running smoothly. It’s the same with your feet. Look after them by having regular treatments and they will serve you well. Make sure you buy the correct footwear too. Old and damaged trainers, for instance, can lead to terrible joint and ligament problems. Imagine life without your feet. Don’t take them for granted.
- Choose The Best Speed
Are you a sports car fanatic or do you hanker for a more sedate classic car? Both have appeal but in a different way. Perhaps there are times in your life when you should speed up and those when you should relax and take it easy. It’s important to exercise your body and rest it in equal measure so you give your best performance.
- Indicate Your Intention.
Your car has both right and left indicators as well as reversing, fog, headlights and brake lights. If used correctly, it is easy for drivers and pedestrians to be aware of your next move. Does this ring true in your work and personal life? Is your body language clear? Do your words and actions marry up? Do you talk but never listen?
Being misunderstood leads to many complications. Being clear about your intentions makes for a much easier lifestyle.
9. Plan Your Route
Whether you have GPS or use a map, you’d not set off without planning how you are going to get to your destination and how long it is likely to take. Life without any planning can be a gamble. Take time out to plan out what you want, with some definite time scales, and notice how much easier it’s just become.
10.The Extras.
Many car owners prefer their cars to have all the "toys". Sometimes these can add to the luxurious appearance of the vehicle, sometimes it enhances performance rather than the style and mostly they add value. Your extras are your accessories. Make sure they add something valuable to the way you look. Novelty ties, whacky socks and out of date spectacles are not accessories you need to be seen with. A decent watch, a stylish briefcase, modern spectacles and a good pen are better alternatives
11. Be Proud.
You are proud of your car, or you should be. You enjoy looking after it, driving it, showing off in it. Guess what? The same should apply to yourself. Be proud of who you are and others will follow your example.
