Day something
I watched a short interaction between my father-in-law (FIL) and mother-in-law (MIL) and I was moved to consider more to the book about my husband's family that I could write. My MIL and FIL are such great friends and their families are very tight. Last night was my niece's 10th birthday celebration and as usual, the immediate family came over (I use that term loosely as "immediate" family means something different to our culture than to others. It is not just mom/dad/grandpa/grandma.). It's summer time and the kids have no school, so though it was a Monday night, dinner started at (or near) 7:15 pm. My sister-in-law (SIL) says if the sun is still up, don't expect the family to arrive yet. That's the rule we go by and so if we're having a party, I tell them that it is starting a few hours earlier than I actually expect them to show up for it. This way, we might actually begin at a decent hour. Well, with these things all considered, the party was still a success.
Now, I know I've gone off on a tangent from my original idea about the interaction between my MIL and FIL. I definitely want to include a chapter about how they met and how they arrived here in Hawaii. It was not an easy move but it changed the direction of their lives for the better.
I think I'd also include a chapter about cooking, cleaning and the laundry. Other ideas include the myths and fairytails (superstitions), money and how to handle it, and "buy new but don't use".
All of these ideas are brewing in my head from time to time. I need to take the time to get it down on paper and to research.
