The Virtual Assistant Handbook; insider secrets for starting and running your own profitable VA business
Tell us the single most important thing we'll learn from your book...
What is a niche, why is it important and how do you find it!
With any service based business that sells their time and expertise, it's important to know exactly WHO your customer is and what need they have so you can speak directly to it! Niche marketing means marketing your offer to a defined target but by doing that you will be heard by them and more. If you try to market to many, being general - your message will be lost. If you follow the direction given by the book, you will find out how to position your business to have clients flocking to you.

However, sometimes what would be more effective, especially if they have limited time, is to build a PR campaign around the web. Unlike traditional PR where people either have to remember your name and Google for your website, or snip out the piece about you, online PR means that all they have to do is click through to you. It might not be as glamorous, but it can be much more effective.

Are you a Learner or a Knower
Submitted by Simon Hazeldine on Tue, 12/06/2007 - 12:40pm.I was speaking to a group of senior business leaders last week on the subject of learning as a source of competitive advantage (not my usual topic but I am very, very passionate about learning!).
I made the bold statement "it is now virtually impossible to predict the future by studying the past" and encouraged them to learn on the move in their businesses.
The world is changing so fast that when you wake up in the morning it has changed from the night before!
The Secrets of Writing a Non-Fiction Book
Submitted by paula g on Mon, 11/06/2007 - 8:56pm.
I had about a year's worth of newsletters that I could use to give structure and content to the book. What I had to do was turn my material into a realistic and practical course that worked as well as made sense. The good news is that if you've been writing newsletters for a while you probably have got a lot of ready-made material for your book already. Now, does that seem less scary?

Do You Really Need A PR Company?
Submitted by paula g on Wed, 06/06/2007 - 10:55am.By Paula Gardner of www.doyourownpr.com
Facing facts
PR and marketing will help your business become more successful. But the obvious downside of a successful business is that you personally will no longer have as much time to devote to PR and marketing.
But handing it over to someone else is a risk - how can you be sure that they'll communicate the passion that fired you up to start the business in the first place?

3 Powerful Questions That Could Change Your Life
Submitted by Barbara Buffton on Tue, 05/06/2007 - 6:24pm.Ever had one of those conversations, either with other people
or with yourself, that goes something like this: One day I
will do what I want to do ...(write a book, travel the world,
run my own business ... you fill in the blanks) or If only I
Whenever I hear myself say things like that, I ask myself
the following 3 questions:
1. What if I could do (whatever I'm putting off) now?
Get Some Possibility Thinking In Your Life
Submitted by Barbara Buffton on Tue, 05/06/2007 - 6:17pm.I'm sure you like me have said or heard 'I can't' many times
in your life. What happens when you say it? For me, it means
finality, a full stop, the end. 'I can't' and that's it, and
there's no point in even trying.
3 Ways To Get Luckier

would that change things for you? If you're interested and
keen to be luckier, read on for 3 ways to improve your
chances.

How To 'Read' A Book In Less Than 10 Minutes
Submitted by Barbara Buffton on Tue, 05/06/2007 - 5:55pm.Wouldn't it be great if you could get from a book what you
want in less than 10 minutes? (I'm talking here about non-
fiction rather than those fiction books which you want to
take your time over!). How much time might you save? How
You could of course go on a speed-reading or photo-reading
course, which teaches you to read faster or to skim read,
but if you can't afford the time or the money to do that
right now, read on for some handy tips:
Change Your Words, Change Your Perspective
Submitted by Barbara Buffton on Tue, 05/06/2007 - 5:49pm.When I was researching what to write for my new website, I
came across examples of how people present themselves
differently to how we might think.
For example, Tesco's doesn't call itself a supplier but
rather 'a buyer on behalf of our customers.' That small
difference in words is a major difference in perspective -
it changes from pushing people to accept what you offer to
pulling people towards you because you have what they want.
3 simple steps to instant focus
Submitted by Barbara Buffton on Tue, 05/06/2007 - 5:41pm.I have just finished a telephone coaching session. My client
phoned half an hour before the agreed time, obviously
believing he was phoning at the right time.
I had the radio on, computer on, my desk was covered in papers and I wasn't at all prepared! So what to do?
Well, first of all, I turned the radio and computer off!
Then, two options came to mind as we were doing the
'how are you?' bit:

* It frees up time for you

What are the challenges?
1. Making the time
In order to gain time, you need to invest some. It's always tempting to
