The most important and deadly reason that you won’t become rich in your lifetime from your own business is because you won’t want to market your product or service, much less sell it. 

 
No matter how good the solution to other people’s problem or pain is, you will keep it a secret and you just won’t want to sell it to them, when the chips are down.
 
The very words “marketing” and “selling” have so many negative connotations it’s untrue. We associate marketeers with charlatans and salesmen with the lowest of the low, with the door to door people, the market traders, the estate agents and car salesmen of this world.

Suffice to say that you cannot sell something to someone who does not want to buy.   People are very sophisticated nowadays – just think! When was the last time you bought something you didn’t want to buy?
 
Your job as a marketeer is to ensure that your product or service does not remain a secret – in fact with 35 million plus people on broadband right now, the internet is the best way to get in front of as many people as possible with your solution to their problem.
 
Your job as a salesman is to make the person who wants to buy, aware of the benefits to him if he does so, and to remove any obstacles in his way. To ask great questions and to give truthful, yet enthusiastic answers to those questions. Be ethical yet be proud of your product or service!
