10 Quick & Easy Ways To Make Your eZine Live Forever

If you've written newsletters for a while in the traditional "news" style, you'll know how frustrating it can be continually having to remind people what you do as you get new subscribers. In your first issue, full of enthusiasm, you might have told your readers that they can get a discount or sign up to another of your great services. But as the numbers grow, perhaps thousands of people have missed some crucial or brilliant piece of advice you wrote a year ago while you're always struggling to come up with something new.

Fortunately there is an easier way...

1. Make It Evergreen
The term "evergreen" when applied to articles means an article that can be read on any day in any year and still have strong meaning to the reader.

To make sure that everyone who signs up to your newsletter receives ALL the information in the sequence that makes most sense to them as a reader and you as a coach, this process is essential.

2. Don't Be Time Sensitive
Avoid putting event dates and "news" that goes out of date in your evergreen eZine. This way it makes sense whenever they read it.

3. Like Clockwork
If you use an automated system, you can ensure people get your eZine at precise regular intervals. My eZine comes out every 14 days - but I could change this easily to be 7 or 28 or whatever I like.

If you aren't already then use software that automates the process - then you can use your time better with clients.

4. Model The Experts
A lot of articles that you read in magazines are topics that can be run again and again. These "evergreen" topics never go out of style - they never date. Here are some examples; bridal magazines use stories on planning your wedding, choosing a wedding dress, hairstyles and that all important honeymoon. Fitness magazines run articles on losing weight and exercising.

5. Get Ahead
Writing an "evergreen" newsletter means that you write all your content ahead of time. To give yourself room to deal with the enquiries that you'll generate and to promote your eZine effectively, it really pays to be a few months ahead before you launch it.

6. Have Goals - What's Your Most Wanted Response?
Here are some ideas:

  • To build a relationship with your readers
  • To educate your readers so they buy you/your stuff
  • To build your subscribers from recommendations - your content needs to be good and you don't get if you don't ask.
  • To sell your coaching products / services to them
  • To make "pinging" prospects as easy as possible

7. Add Massive Value
The "Evergreen" format means you can afford to do your best job on the content, as it will be recycled and re-read time and again. The information you give though must still be valuable. Even if it's free you won't get away with sending out rubbish.

8. Don't Sell - Educate
You won't keep subscribers long if you just use your eZine to blatantly plug your coaching service without providing valuable information. I would recommend using your eZine to educate prospects over time. There's no need to rush people but always make it clear where they should click to find out more about you or to become a client.

9. Opt-Out You must include a proper opt in and out link in every message. Use an automated system for this, don't waste your own time trying to manage something so tiresome!

10. Date Your Prospects
Take advantage of the opportunity to build a relationship, as you would in any other real world situation, divulge a little more of yourself each time. Then as people become more used to you and the relationship grows they'll be happy to start paying for more of you.
